Apartment Renovation In Melissia, Athens

This project concerns the renovation of an 82 m² apartment located on the third floor of a residential building constructed in the 1990s in Melissia, a northern suburb of Athens. The original layout consisted of a combined living and dining area facing the front garden, two bedrooms positioned at the rear of the apartment, and a kitchen and WC located near the entrance.

The client’s brief focused on updating the apartment while making the space feel brighter and more spacious. A key requirement was the visual separation of the kitchen from the entrance area, as well as the introduction of generous closed storage throughout the apartment.

The proposed design introduces a continuous storage wall that organises the central part of the apartment. On the kitchen side, the wall provides extensive cabinetry and integrated storage, while on the entrance side it incorporates a concealed entry closet, shoes storage, two narrow libraries and a mirror seating nook. At the same time, this element subtly separates the entrance and WC from the main living areas.

To address the client’s hesitation between an open-plan or closed kitchen, the design incorporates a pocket sliding door between the kitchen and the living-dining area. The door can remain fully concealed to allow the apartment to function as an open-plan space, or be closed to create a more defined separation when required. The intervention enhances spatial clarity, functionality, and everyday comfort while maintaining a calm and contemporary interior atmosphere.
